If your child is 15 years old or younger, and either you or your child holds a valid Community Services Card,
you may be eligible for free prescription glasses, including both frames and lenses.

This government-funded program ensures Kiwi kids receive the vision care they need — without financial stress.


It’s ideal for children experiencing:

  • Myopia (nearsightedness)

  • Hyperopia (farsightedness)

  • Astigmatism

  • Other vision issues diagnosed by an eye care professional

What’s Covered

Up to $287.50 per year in total support

  • Includes up to $138 for frames

  • + $51.11 extra if adult-size frames are required

  • Covers:
     • Prescription lenses
     • Eye exams
     • Frames, repairs, and eye patches

  • Renewable once a year, every year, until your child turns 16

  • Extra support for children with progressive myopia – up to two claims per year

How to Access the Benefit

  1. Book an eye exam with a registered optometrist
     • You can do this at Optics 1, or
     • Bring a valid prescription from another clinic

  2. Bring your Community Services Card (yours or your child’s)

  3. We’ll take care of the claim process — quick, easy, and stress-free
